In developing countries, many poor people suffer from a lack of access to modern energy. The International Energy Agency estimates 1.4 billion people, the majority in Africa’s rural areas, will still lack access to electricity in 2030 unless new approaches and policies are adopted.
Successfully tackling electrification means adapting programs to local contexts and national environments. Bridging this power gap is an urgent issue that countries across the continent need to address. |
Africa possesses the potential to produce significant conventional and alternative energy. However, chronically low rates of electrification remain Africa’s major bottleneck for growth and development, with less than 50% of the population having access to energy in most of sub-Saharan Africa.
What new approaches are required to rethink the design and financing of generation capacity on the continent so that energy becomes a real catalyst for growth?
The Energy Indaba Conference will discuss, debate and seek solutions to enable adequate energy generation across the continent.
The conference will provide an opportunity to:
- debate policy,
- review industrial progress and market trends
- discuss the efficiency of various public support mechanisms and public-private partnerships across the continent.
- review new data and the latest technological trends globally to be under review.
Why should you attend?
- Update individual knowledge on the current trends within energy across the African continent with input from global authorities
- Start to explore future trends to run your business as efficiently as possible
- Explore the growing interest in 'green' and sustainability issues that is on the increase. As such new opportunities will emerge and new careers will be created. Some of the future energy workforce will continue to be involved in the primary energy related industries of oil, gas and coal, particularly as research is pursued to increase their greenness and use efficiency.
