IN ASSOCIATION WITH:
The World Energy Council (WEC)

The World Energy Council is the foremost multi-energy organisation in the world today. WEC has Member Committees in nearly 100 countries, including most of the largest energy- producing and energy consuming countries. Established in 1923; the organisation covers all types of energy, including coal, oil, natural gas, nuclear, hydro, and renewables.

“Will new regulatory frameworks in SA and in the region deliver? Can we see investments increase? Are these a reflection of green growth that also have integrated the lessons learnt post Fukushima and Macondo? Do they raise ‘all boats’ and also take rural energy poverty out of stagnation? These are critical issues for Africa and the Indaba event provides a unique opportunity to discuss the latest regional developments and insight from World Energy Council Issues Maps, Scenarios and Policy Assessment in an informal context involving industry leaders, government representatives and experts from and interested in Africa.”
- Mr Christoph Frei, WEC Secretary-General

PRESENTED BY:
The South African National Energy Association (SANEA)

The South African National Energy Association (SANEA) has as its vision “Energy People Working Together”. This vision is exercised through the active participation of some 400 SANEA members. SANEA is active in the energy sector in South Africa and the “SANEA” Brand is known in all energy spheres. The SANEA membership consists of organizations and individuals with an interest in the broad energy sector, such as Eskom, BHP Billiton, Exxaro Resources, Sasol, NERSA, Engen, Accenture, University of Cape Town Business School and the likes. SANEA is the South African member committee of the World Energy Council (WEC) and SANEA’s Chair, Brian Statham, is an elected officer of the WEC. WEC is the foremost global multi-energy organisation in the world today. WEC has Member Committees in over 90 countries, including most of the largest energy-producing and energy consuming countries.

"SANEA’s Vision is Energy People Working Together which is fully congruent with the spirit of Indaba. Energy Indaba is a meeting place for people who have the Intellectual, Emotional and Physical Energy necessary to make a real difference to the development of the African continent and her people; a forum for profound dialogue; an opportunity for concerted effort.” - Mr Brian Statham, SANEA Chairman

Impact Choice

Energy Indaba has appointed environmental sustainability solutions provider, impactChoice, to deploy their unique exhibition and conference offsetting solution to offset the event’s energy related carbon footprint – rendering it energy neutral. It is a known fact that electricity consumption is a significant contributing factor to the Climate Crisis. This stems from the use of non-renewable energy sources such as coal to fire power plants which generate electricity and emit large volumes of pollution in the process. impactChoice has developed an engagement model which allows for the compensation of this energy consumption at corporate events. For all exhibitors at the Energy Indaba, this means that they will receive an impactChoice offset certificate addressed to their company for what amounts to their relative proportion of the overall exhibition’s energy footprint. Each individual attending the conference will also be sent, via email, an impactChoice offset certificate relating to their attendance. All impactChoice certificates are in fact micro-offset certificates linked via traceable serial number to a macro Voluntary Emission Reduction (VER), Certified Emission Reduction (CER) or Renewable Energy Certificates (REC) – to ensure that funds support current and verifiable offset projects. In the case of the Energy Indaba 2011, impactChoice’s chosen carbon offset provider is the Plan Vivo/CCBS Gold Standard VER project in Mozambique called the Sofala Community Carbon Project - because of its environmental and social co-benefits.

The Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Partnership

The Renewable Energy & Energy Efficiency Partnership (REEEP) is a nonprofit, specialist change agent aiming to catalyse the market for renewable energy and energy efficiency, with a primary focus on emerging markets and developing countries. REEEP initiates and funds projects; targeted interventions in two specific areas that offer the greatest potential for developing the market for sustainable energy: assisting governments in creating favourable regulatory and policy frameworks; and promoting innovative finance and business models to activate the private sector. REEEP develops and supports policymaker networks with initiatives such as the Energy Efficiency Coalition (EEC), the Sustainable Energy Regulation Network (SERN) and Renewable Energy and International Law (REIL). REEEP disseminates and replicates learnings through news items, publications, its website and events. It also operates a search engine for the green energy world (REEGLE) and a clean energy blog.
